17 Weeks!

Wow!!  This week has flown by!

I don't quite know what to think about these weekly posts anymore!  What with last week's ultrasound and the babies being so big, I don't know how they now compare to what the books say....

So if the books say that this week the twins should be 4.4-4.8 inches and weigh 3.5 ounces, but last week, they were 6 ounces, what should we think?  I guess we'll just go with it, knowing that these babies are at least that big!  The twins are each about the size of your hand spread open wide!  Wow!

Let's talk about fat.  NO.....not me....and shame on you for thinking of me when I say the word fat!!  :)

The babies are developing fat as of this week!!  This is very exciting as fat will make up approximately 3/4 of their birth weight!  These kiddos are getting prepped and ready for birth.  And we want 'em nice and big and fat!  :-)

Only 3 more weeks until the guys are here and we have our "big" ultrasound and hospital tour!  Can't wait to see them!

Finally, I will say that I feel like the belly got MUCH bigger this week!  Do you agree, or is it just me?

I'm Sorry....

I've been a BAD blogger....a bad, BAD blogger!

I have been busy!!!  We left on Friday for a weekend getaway to Colorado Springs!  We had no sooner unpacked from that trip before I began a massive organization/cleaning of the house!  We are hosting 4th of July, and my mom arrives a few days after that so the cleaning frenzy has begun!!

The good news:  the house and yard are lookin' GOOD so far!

The bad news:  Phew!!  This is HARD WORK!!

Pregnancy wise, all is well!  Babies are a'movin' around in there and seem to be happy, which makes me VERY happy!

I wish I had more exciting news for you all!  Maybe next time!!  :)

16 Week Appointment

Our appointment this morning went great!  Who wouldn't love an hour long ultrasound "playdate" with the twins?!  They both looked fantastic!!  The tech just kept raving about how great everything looked!  She did a lot of measurements and also located many organs like the lungs, heart, bladder, stomach, kidneys, etc.  All was perfect!!  Instead of just measuring crown to rump length, now they measure head circumference, femur length and stomach to get an actual weight on each baby.  If you read my post this morning, you know that the books say right now babies weigh 3 ounces each.  Well....NOT these babies!!!  You see, these babies are over-achievers!  Each baby weighs 6 ounces!!!  Wahoo!!!!!  Yay for nice big babies!  The Dr. was thrilled with all of the numbers and was excited that the babies were so big!!  I am so proud of these kiddos...they are doing a fantastic job growing nice and big and strong!!

Some stats on me:
Blood Pressure: 118/65
Weight Gain: 5 pounds for a total of 13
Measuring: 22 weeks, which Dr. said is right on for twins at this point!

So hooray for everyone being healthy!!  Gonna celebrate with some yoga tonight!!

Here is a pic of the cuties!!  ...I know that's really all you wanted.....  LOL!

Baby B really likes to pose for pictures.  He/she was always looking right at us!
Baby A seems to prefer the profile.  :)

16 Weeks!

Babies this week are 4.3-4.6 inches long and weigh about 3 ounces each!  In the next few weeks, they will double their weight and add SEVERAL inches to their height!! In the next few WEEKS!!!  Wow!  It really is amazing how quickly they have gotten so big, and how quickly I have gotten so big!  I thought we'd take a look back at the progression:
10 Weeks

12 Weeks

14 Weeks

And now....here we are this week!

16 Weeks!

We have our 16 week appointment later this morning so I will be sure to post pics/video of the babies!!

Stay tuned, folks!!

Dancing With The Twins

Today is a GORGEOUS day in Colorado.  On my way to work this morning, there really was NO option but to open up the sunroof, turn up the tunes and dance with the twins!!  Yes, I am one of those people who has no problem dancing in the car...all by myself!  You'd think people would make fun of me, but usually, I get smiles and thumbs up!  :-)

Can't you just picture us?
I LOVE my Scion TC!!  :)

So....what did we dance to?

Oh, you know....a little J Lo, followed by some Rihanna, and we wrapped things up with a little Pink!  I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I think the kiddos did too, although they continued dancing for a while when I was forced to stop and work!  :)

By the way, George and Farid...you guys have got nothing to worry about!  I am teaching these kiddos some super fly white chick dance moves!!  LOL!!

I'm pretty sure the twins looked somethin' like this:

A Post For My Fellow Bloggers

Ok...so I know that many of you have been experiencing the inability to comment on blogs!  Thanks to my oh so smart friend Jesse, I think we may have figured out why...

To change:  Go to the SETTINGS button.  Click on the COMMENTS tab.  About 3 settings down you can choose POP UP WINDOW and SAVE.  Voila!  Now Jeni is a happy camper and can talk to you again!!!  I know we are all on the same page and want Jeni to be a happy camper, right?  RIGHT???  LOL!!

Anyway, I thought I would share just in case this helps!

What's On The Menu?

So....shall we follow up on my previous post about Nutrition and Pregnancy?

Let me begin by saying that at the beginning of this pregnancy, it was a little overwhelming to think about how much responsibility I had in growing these little people!  Nutrition is a big part of ANY healthy pregnancy and well, let's face it...when you're carrying someone else's children, that responsibility can feel even greater!

That being said, I am relieved to report that at this point, as we approach 15 weeks of pregnancy, good nutrition has become 2nd nature and no longer feels quite so overwhelming.

I have continued to stick with the 2500 calorie a day plan.  The Dr. was pleased with that number, as well as my long term goal to stick to a 35-45 pound weight gain.  I am still shooting for the 24 pounds by 24 weeks number as well. I gained 8 pounds in my first trimester...a little above the 4-6 pound goal, but the Dr. was not worried about that at all!  In fact, she was pleased with my weight gain at my 12 week appointment.  Since then I have gained an additional 3 pounds, for a total of 11 pounds at this point.  (*sidenote*  I noticed this morning that I have to lean over to see the numbers on the scale now!  Haha!)  Average weight gain after the first trimester is 1-1 1/2 pounds a week, so for the second trimester,  I'm right on track...

I will be honest, I don't religiously count my calories.  What I mean by this is that I don't keep a food journal, or track my calories anywhere but in my head.  As anyone who is an avid calorie counter will tell you, we mentally count calories all day long...pregnant or not.  I fall right around 2500/day.  Sometimes a bit more. :-)

What kinds of things am I eating?  Well...here's another tricky part about pregnancy.  Often, when it comes time for a meal, certain types of food sound great, others sound AWFUL!  The very next meal, that same thing that sounded AWFUL, now sounds absolutely delightful!!  Crazy what hormones do to your appetite! LOL!  So, I can't exactly pinpoint what I AM eating, because I tend to eat what sounds good at the time.  I   CAN tell you that whatever it is that sounds good, I try to make it as healthy as I can.  For example, if a salad sounds good....great, I'm good to go.  If a burger and fries sound good, I will have that, but I try to limit my portions.  I'm just being honest here.  I tend to eat what I want, but you have to make adjustments depending on what your day's calories look like.  Higher calorie lunch=Lower calorie dinner, etc.    I feel comfortable knowing that I'm getting enough by shooting for that calorie range and trying to keep the bulk of those calories healthy ones.

What I don't eat:
Cookie Dough (or anything with raw eggs), Lunch meats, Soft Cheeses, Undercooked meats....these are all typical things to avoid during pregnancy.

A few things that I've noticed:
The further I get into this pregnancy, the less ROOM I have for meals.  Let's face it...these babies are squishing my stomach and there just isn't enough space!!  Eating smaller amounts of food, more often during the day, allows me to get those calories in, without making my insides too uncomfortable!  This also helps with the heartburn...I am told by the Dr. that this will obviously continue to be a problem as these babies get bigger so I am just getting used to the smaller amounts/more often now....

Speaking of heartburn, one of the things that I definitely have been avoiding is spicy foods...it just doesn't sound so delicious when I can literally feel what that heartburn is going to feel like later.  I've had 3 ugly cases of heartburn so  far and it's not so fun...so I try not to overeat (TRY being the operative word) and avoid things that would have a tendency to cause heartburn.

All in all, the key to  a good diet (pregnant or not) is balance and moderation. If I can continue to practice these 2 things, I am confident that this girl's gonna meet her goal of growing two 5+ pound babies!!  Think I can grow 6 pounders????  Sounds good....let's shoot for 6!  :)

14 Weeks!

Wow!  The time is flying by!!

This week's big development:  Thanks to brain impulses, babies can now squint, frown, and grimace.  What???  No smiles????  I think THESE babies are smiling.....non stop....24 hours a day!  They're happy in there!  Lol!!  Babies are about the size of your fist...or a lemon and measure about 3 1/2 - 4 inches long!  Two lemons...how sweet.  :-)

How's their babysitter doin' these days?  Great!  I'm feeling good, enjoying the bumps and flutters that I get!  I can usually get Baby A (who sits on my left) to move by rolling from my right, to my left while I am laying down.  I think he/she is just re-adjusting/getting cozy in a new spot each time.  Baby B is on my right and is sitting kinda behind Baby A, so I don't get the opportunity to feel him/her quite as often as Baby A, but every once in a while, I get some reassurance...Baby B is bouncin' around too!  :)

Getting bigger by the day...sometimes it feels by the hour.  People seem to be split on my size.  Some say I seem so small for 14 weeks with twins...others say "Whoa!!  You're just getting bigger and bigger!"  All I know is Farid wants me "MORE PREGNANT!", so that's what I'm gonna do!  :)

Let the Summer Fun Begin!

When did this happen????

Savannah has officially graduated from Kindergarten!!!  She is so excited and we hadn't even left the building when she declared herself a 1st grader!  :-)   Graduation is tough to get through emotionally when your body is surging with hormones, but I survived.  And let's face it...Pomp and Circumstance gets me every time...even when my sweet 6 year old cutie isn't walking down the aisle with her cap on!

After Kindergarten graduation, we hopped over to Skyler's class where the last day of school is less emotional and all about celebrating!!  Her teacher had planned tons of fun games for the kids to play including this one where you tried to stack 6 dice on a Popsicle stick being held in your mouth!  I have to say...Skyler rocked the house at this challenge!

Or how about this one....Roll an Oreo from your forehead to your mouth...no hands allowed!!  :)

Savannah gave this one a try too....

Anyway...school is officially out and we have already been enjoying BBQ's, running in the sprinklers, and the girls have been excited about staying up late and sleeping on the couches!  Gotta love summer time!

Get to Know George and Farid A Little Better....

Enough about me already!  Here are a couple of recent "releases" about George and Farid
to help you get to know THEM a little better.
They are, after all, what this journey is all about!
(Well....them AND their adorable babies!)

Yes, I know.  They are pretty fantastic, aren't they?  How did I get so lucky?

13 Weeks!

The babies are growing rapidly!!!  Crown to rump, they measure 2.6-3.1 inches long!!  They are each about the size of a peach!  Awwww......they're getting SO big!!  :)  Shockingly, I didn't feel like I got any bigger this week.  I will let you all be the judge of that:

13 Weeks
Maybe not a whole lot bigger...but I DID have a
good hair/makeup day!  Yahooo!!!  :-)

No, I'm definitely not complaining about not feeling any bigger.  This week was "reality" week for me. The twins make their presence known all the time now, whether it's wigglin' around (which can I just say, I love), or giving me the dreaded heartburn (don't love that so much).  The growing belly requires me to sleep on my sides, that is, when I am sleeping and not going to the bathroom!  :)  Anyway, what I'm getting at is that reality hit me this week when I realized, yes, I'm getting bigger.  I will continue to get bigger, and bigger and dare I say bigger as the weeks go on!  :)  These babies are-a-growin'!   And it's a wonderful thing I tell you!

Got word from the Dr. earlier this week that all of the tests/bloodwork/ultrasound  results came back perfectly!  Babies are very healthy!  Yay!!!

3 weeks until our next sneak peak at the kiddos!!
